Fundraising

Thanks to the efforts of the fundraising team, parents, young people and friends of the group, we’re delighted to have been able to replace the Scout Hut roof as of April 2015. However there is still much more to be done…

FUNDS RAISED

The Fundraising Team may have seemed very quiet lately, however, there has been lots of activity behind the scenes.

Last year’s fundraising efforts, with the help of parental input and generous donations of time, money and cakes, were a great success, and include: £275 at the quiz night, £2000 at the Christmas Bazaar, £550 from Christmas Tree Sales and £670 bag packing at Sainsbury’s.

In addition, our grant applications have proved successful:

  • Normandy Parish Council have generously awarded us with £2000,
  • Keith Witham, our local County Councillor, awarded us with £2000, and
  • The Royal Society of St George has awarded us with £500.

Matthew and Liam (a Cub and a Beaver) have personally raised £316.50 (incl gift aid) by doing their own sponsored cycle ride in aid of the roof fund and cycling 21 and 25 miles respectively!

Ebay sales from some of the Phil the Bag Donations have raised  £140

And the Gift Aid submissions will also be crediting our account handsomely.

REFURBISHED TOILETS

We are hoping it won’t be too long before we have enough funds to replace the toilets too.  One or two more fundraising events with a ‘big push’ from parent and member volunteers, should be enough.

A NEW KITCHEN

But, the dedicated Fundraising Team is not stopping there…..we’ve needed a new kitchen for years, raising the money so quickly for the roof has inspired us to keep working and replace the tired and run down kitchen with modern, commercial fittings.  So we are planning ahead – If anybody is connected to the kitchen trade that may be able to help with planning or any other aspect, including white goods and flooring, please let us know as soon as possible.

PORTABLE COMPUTERS FOR  THE LEADERS

The Scout Association is being modernised too, with records and weekly program material being available on-line.  This implies that it will be necessary for the Leaders to have portable computers, which we are also hoping to raise funds for.
